Jenny  of Sheepy Hollow Herbs just wrote an delightful (updated)  post over on the Coutry Heritage Color Tour Blog. This is the 13th annual event. So far we have over ten stops, all gearing up for your visits to our farms, shoppes and studios.

A lot of creative engery is flowing here in the Almont area. Mark your calenders and come discover local handmade crafts, foods and farm fresh produce. This year the Cottage Kitchen Law was passed allowing for a more delightful foodie experience withthe offering of  homemade baked goods at some of the stops. Maps will be availeable mid September. I often get asked how much do you charge for wedding flowers?

I charge the going rate for my flowers and at times alittle more for my creative time. The most important question here is… what’s your budget?

Here at Teemie’s Country Blooms, we have found it is best to work within your  personal budget.

 First decide on what your flower colors will be. Brights, hot pick ,deep reds? Pastels? Light pink? butter yellow? Then work from there.

What season is your special day planned for?  Early or late spring? Early, late or mid  summer? All  of these micor seasons offer different local blooms, fall, Christmas or  winter?  

Next break your flower costs into two sections. One-the bridal party and Two- the reception.

Number 1- For the bridal party you’ll need to consider your maid of honor, bridesmaid (s), possible jr bridesmaid, flowergirl and a toss bouquet. Then mother of the bride, mother of the groom,  grandmothers, godmother(s). Groom, bestman, groomsmen, ushers, father of the bride, father of the groom, grandfather (s), god father(s)  ring bearer.

Number 2- Tablescapes… think about how much can you spend per table. Vase, flowers stones extra bling for drama. vase shapes vary and will determine your flower costs. We’ll talk about  this more on another blog post.

 Jill Hough shared the ID of this butterfly. She said to allow patches of Queen Annes Lace for their home landing.

I took this picture of the Swallowtail butterfly on the anise near the shoppe entrance. This happy beauty kept me company for most of the day

 Rachel and I have this on going joke between us, we’re in conversation or on task and a butterfly will wisk us away to another, flitting about like a butterfly in flight.

‘ah butterfly’ is our phrase for seeking peace . Puts us in a happy place.

Creative beings that we are,  you can’t help but appreciate the awesomeness of this creation.

To study this exchange it left me with the thought…’The designer is the Master, God Almighty”.

 This year has brought an amazing butterfly show to the gardens.  Some are  very large yellow with bits of blue with a black border on its wing,  black  with blue spots and about the size of  Monarcs, of which there are many.   Lovely, makes up for all the weeds that are growing so well in this humid Michigan summer. I’ll have to research the names for future postings.  Its challenging to catch a picture of a flitting butterfly.  Holly Hocks and mallow are their favorites so far. And the cone flower.

beginning to settle. feeling much more at peace with things finding their home. we’ll work on the barn walls this winter for now, we’re good.

planted poppies for 2011, cleared out some old dead lilacs, trimming bushes,  been moving  the sweet annie bed to the flower field, its finially taken, making babies for 2011 to winter over. the sun pit is getting black plastic early am as the weeds are crazy and I have other projects I must do first, so the black will help kill things off. weedsa re growign at a crazy rate of speed.

have a stack of paper waiting to be made into farm passes tea, baked good and u pick coupons. I have a wedding this week so between everything Karen and Rachel and I are getting lots done. The tea corner is shaping up nicely, farm fresh eggs are stocked and ready for you to pickup call to reserve I’ll happily hold them for you (Michele)

grrr itching itching on my neck, back and face … must make up a herbal paste to soothe it. I normally don’t break out.  I’ve heard ‘jewelweed’ works wonders.

Been clearing up trees and cleaning up around the lilac bushes.  Who would know a master gardener lives here? I haven’t planted hardly an annual because of the garden redos this year/ oh but the vision for next year is amazing!

Weeds are over taking the gardens I’m not working on. Going for simple which seems to have created more messes than usual.  LOL Making decisions on getting rid of undone projects, piles and things that don’t fit in to the herb and flowers business and taking steps to making my arts more a part of  it.

 Soon I’ll be planting in the sun pit for fall and winder harvest. It’s jungle in there, yes really.  Apply long term weed control is the plan for next week in there.

Its all in the details.

Detailing is my current focus word.

Seeking the details…These leek blooms are amazing with the clover ground cover preventing weeds from coming through.  The deeper center fading out to the light lavender, almost white- orb of a flower head.

Some seek detailing of their cars and trucks on a regular basis.

Not me.

I’m detailing my lil country business. Feels great!  Fixing this and that, tweaking displays and the setting up  the new Tea Corner with dear friend, Karen.

I’m taking time to detail this flower studio,  my singage and flower fields and  farmhouse gardens. Details have been brushed aside for the sake of life events over riding them.

I’m heading out in few minutes, before the heat to clear away all the junkique, I’ve set out the studio back door to go in to he Barn Sale we’re having this  Thursday & Friday. Glass doors,  what nots and wierd things.

Detailing the field and gardens too. Taking time to move some perrenials watering heavy in this heat. Peonies, daisies, lillies, iris, lavenders,  cone flowers, tansies’ loving the sandy loam by the studio, planting  seeds for new perrenials for next years U Pick.  Gathering for potpourries and dried arrangements. Breathing deep these days enjoying this time of laying out the final details at this stage of my ribbon  flower and herb farm and farm fresh florist.

Green eleminators…No bug spray needed here. These sweet little ducks are keeping the bugs at bay. Very thankful for them eating pests, making our evenings more pleasent.
